Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, and protect your personal data.

Last updated 3 August 2026

Draft: not yet reviewed by a lawyer. We're publishing this now so you can see what we collect and why while mumbuddie is being built, but the wording may still change before formal legal review is complete.

1. Who we are

mumbuddie ("we", "us", "our") provides the mumbuddie mobile app, a pregnancy and postpartum companion built around community support. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have over it.

Data controller: mumbuddie.com (placeholder, to be replaced with the incorporated legal entity name once one exists). Contact: mumbuddie@gmail.com.

This policy applies to the mumbuddie app on iOS and Android, and to mumbuddie.com.

2. What we collect

Account information: email address (used for sign-in via one-time passcode), or your Apple/Google account identifier if you sign in that way, and a handle/display name you choose.

Pregnancy and health-related information: due date, birth date, pregnancy stage, whether this is your first baby or you're expecting multiples, your role (birthing parent or partner), and optional preferences like support-network tags. Most of this is "special category" health data under UK/EU GDPR, including the quick-log tracking entries you record (feeding, pumping, sleep, and symptom logs, plus mood check-ins), which sync to our backend so they're not lost on a new device, and content you write or read in community posts and replies, and your progress through educational modules.

Ethnicity (optional): asked separately, used only to suggest relevant communities. Never required, never shown on your posts, and you can withdraw it any time in Settings.

Community content: posts and replies, including whether you posted anonymously; saves, reactions, and reports. If you post anonymously, other members never see your identity, see Section 6.

Device and technical information: a push notification token, if you enable notifications.

We do not access your contacts, photos, location, or health data from other apps or wearables, and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

3. Why we process your data

Providing the service (contract): account creation, showing you your cohort/community, storing your posts.

Consent: ethnicity data and push notifications are opt-in and processed only with your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Legitimate interest: keeping communities safe and improving the app.

Legal obligation: where required by law.

4. How your data is used

To place you in the right community, let you post and interact with other members, send notifications you've opted into, and keep the community safe through moderation. We do not sell your data or use it for third-party advertising.

5. Who we share it with

Supabase (our database and backend provider), hosted in the EU. Apple / Google, to deliver push notifications if enabled. We do not sell or rent your personal data. We would disclose data if required by law, or to protect a user's safety.

6. Moderation and safety

Communities are moderated. Moderators can review, annotate, or remove posts, and in serious cases suspend an account. Anonymous posting means other members never see who wrote a post; a moderator can reveal the author internally only for a safety review, and that action is itself logged.

If you're in immediate danger or crisis, the app is not a substitute for emergency services or a medical professional.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data; withdraw consent; and object to or restrict certain processing. You can complain to a supervisory authority, in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

To exercise these rights, contact mumbuddie@gmail.com, or use Settings → Data & privacy in the app.

8. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep it longer for legal or safety reasons.

For quick-log tracking entries specifically, you control how long they're kept: in Settings → Data & privacy you can choose 90 days, 1 year, or indefinitely (the default). Entries older than your chosen window are deleted automatically. You can also export all your tracking data as a CSV file, or wipe it immediately with "Clear my data," at any time.

9. AI and automated content

mumbuddie does not currently use artificial intelligence to generate content, personalise recommendations, or moderate posts, everything you see is written or reviewed by a person. If that changes, we'll say so clearly in the app and update this policy before any AI-powered feature goes live.

10. Children

mumbuddie is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 18.

11. International transfers

Our infrastructure is hosted in the EU. Any transfer outside the UK/EEA is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

12. Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy as the app changes, noting the date above. Material changes will be communicated in-app.
